The festival is open for filmmakers from regional areas who have created a short film under 30 minutes in length.
Far South Film Festival's Marna Smith said it was important for regional filmmakers to see their world and stories told on film from their perspective. The event also gives regional filmmakers an opportunity to compete on a more level playing field, she said.
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
Ms Smith's biggest piece of advice for those thinking of entering was to pay attention to the story and sound quality.
"Categories are open, apart from the Youth category, so any type or genre of film can be entered, even animation, experimental video or screen based art so think outside of the square," she said.
"If you have a story to tell we want to see it."
The film festival will be held online on August 23.
Ms Smith said with bushfires, drought and now COVID-19, regional areas had been hit hard this year.
"We believe that creative expression can assist in processing and healing trauma, which is one of the reasons Far South Film decided to push ahead with the Far South Film Festival in an online format," she said.
The prize for best film is $1000.
Submissions close at the end of the month and filmmakers will be notified on August 9 if their submission will be screened at the festival.
