The Dubbo side had been scheduled to play its Western Premier League second round match at home at Hans Claven Oval on Saturday afternoon.

The heavy rain around the region saw all grounds in Dubbo closed on the weekend but Macquarie and the Lithgow Workmen's clubs came together to ensure the match went ahead.

It was switched around and played around at Lithgow.

And Lithgow, after a first round bye, got on the board by downing the Paul Crain-coached Macquarie outfit 2-1.

Lithgow shot out of the blocks and led 2-0 after just half an hour.

That's how things remained until half-time and while Matt Smith gave Macquarie hope when scoring with half an hour left it wasn't to be as the hosts' keeper Sam Johnson ensured Workies started their campaign with a win.

"As a whole we weren't too bad, we tried to play the game the way we planned and I think we can only build from here," Lithgow coach Martin Hunter said.

"We haven't played since March and our match fitness and game awareness can only get better from here."

After a turbulent 24 hours Macquarie were put on the back foot almost immediately after play began on Sunday.

Captain Ben Sheehan scored for Lithgow after just five minutes later and on the half hour mark a stunning long-range shot from Nick Young doubled the advantage.

Macquarie had its moments in the match though and one of those came midway through the second half when Smith scored but that was all Macquarie had to show for its trip away.

"Sam Johnson also saved a critical shot on target from Dubbo, that would've made it it 2-2 in the second half," Hunter added.

"He saved it from going in the top bins."

Macquarie will now host the reverse fixture against Lithgow next month.

The Dubbo side returns home next weekend to take on the Parkes Cobras.

The Cobras suffered a 4-1 loss to the Dubbo Bulls on Saturday while Orange's Barnstoneworth FC downed Panorama 4-2 at Bathurst.
