The 30-year-old has been refused bail and cannot be identified. Some of the details surrounding the case cannot be reported for legal reasons.
The man's charges were mentioned in Gunnedah Local Court on Thursday, and adjourned by magistrate Peter Thompson.
Detectives have been ordered to compile a brief of evidence into the charges before the case returns to court in mid-August.
The man made no application for bail and it was formally refused.
In January, detectives from the State Crime Command's Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad started an investigation after reports two children had been sexually abused by a man known to them.
Following investigations, detectives arrested a 30-year-old man at Coonamble police station on the morning of July 2.
The man was charged with four counts of sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 10 years; four counts of committing an act of indecency with a victim under 10 years; and indecent assault of a child under 16 years.
Detectives will allege the man sexually abused a young girl and boy on numerous occasions at Coonamble between 2013 and 2014.
Investigations are continuing.
