No Limit Boxing promoter Matt Rose, who is currently living in Bathurst, revealed on Tuesday that Carrington Park is one of four venues on the shortlist to host the October 31 bout.
The Hunter Sports Stadium, Sydney's Qudos Bank Arena and Spark Stadium in Auckland are the others in consideration.
"I reckon it's still probably three weeks away from pulling in the data from the four locations and then we'll be able to make a decision," Rose said.
"This fight has attracted huge interest and will be a sellout wherever we decide to take the fight.
"Gallen is an NRL legend and one of, it not the, toughest footballer in the last 20 years and Mark Hunt is a UFC legend that hits harder than any fighter in country."
Rose stated the success of the Elton John concert at Bathurst earlier this year gave him the confidence to put Carrington Park forward as a possible venue.
But while the venue is still in doubt, there is certainty that the fight - which was initially set for February but postponed due to the coronavirus - will be a scintillating contest.
Gallen, who has a 9-0-1 record, confirmed on 2GB Radio on Wednesday he is close to signing a contract and keen to see the fight happen.
"It's looking promising, it's looking like it's going to happen," the 38-year-old said.
"The venue I'm not sure of yet. It could be New South Wales somewhere, hopefully Queensland, possibly even New Zealand.
"We're going to get it on. I'm not going in there to lose."
While Bathurst awaits to hear if Carrington Park is the successful candidate, Rose has also revealed he hopes to have a Central West link on the under card of the highly anticipated bout between Tim Tszyu and Jeff Horn he will put on in Townsville.
"It am trying to work on someone from the Central West to fight on that Horn-Tszyu card actually - they'll get to fight up in Townsville and that should be good," he said.
