During National Diabetes Week from Sunday, its diabetes educators are raising awareness of the relationship between diabetes and mental health.

They say untreated mental health problems can lead people with diabetes to neglect healthy eating, taking their medicines and self-monitoring.
Diabetes educator Marija Bindley said getting support in managing diabetes was a "great way" to begin tackling everyday stress.
She said clients were also encouraged to get help from a mental health professional at the onset of symptoms.
"We want the community to know that a diagnosis of diabetes isn't the end of the road, not at all," Mrs Bindley said.
"It's completely manageable and we're here to support you every step of the way."
