The newly-established Parkes Cobras enjoyed a dream start to life in the revamped regional competition by scoring the first goal in the early stages of the clash at Woodward Oval.
But a severely under strength Spurs kept things calm, worked their way back into the match and a strike from Pete Morrison got things back all square.
The Cobras played some slick football at times and were left frustrated after having goals disallowed but the Spurs defence, led by Dave Ferguson, ensured the points were shared.
"It was good to get that first game under the belt," captain Jared Corby said.
"The strong backline stood out. We've been playing together for a number of years but we're trying something new this year and trying to make it better.
"Dave Ferguson was out man of the match. He's our centre-back and has got a lot of games under his belt and reads the game very well."

Spurs made the trip to Parkes with just two on the bench and that posed a challenge given fitness levels across the competition are a little lower than they normally would be given the COVID-19-enforced layoff in recent months.
But with the likes of Ferguson in the side Spurs still managed to set the tempo for much of the contest.
Spurs now head into the bye in round two before a blockbuster local derby clash with the Bulls at Lady Cutler 5 the following week.
The meeting between Spurs and Parkes was one of three draws in the opening round, something Corby and a number of others said indicated the quality and even nature of the competition.
"It's going to be tight every week," Corby said.
"You've got to work to be consistent and if you go away you've got to try and get a result and then win your games at home."
