Environmentalists welcome the news announced this week (30/6/20) by Dugald Saunders of the NSW Government's commitment of $40 million to develop the nation's first Renewable Energy Zone here in the Orana Region.
It is imperative that Australia phases out its dependency upon fossil fuels. The international consensus of scientists is that Global average temperatures cannot be limited to a 1.5 degree Celcius increase (as required by the Paris Agreement) if the world continues its current rate of emissions.
Climate Tracker in 2019 rated Australia as the 6th worst country in the world for Climate action.
The Federal LNP is making no effort to meet their Paris Agreement contract, instead fast-tracking coal and gas mining and postponing the provision of their data.
Postponement is not addressing the problem.
Mr Saunders needs to now fight tooth and nail to stop the Santos coal seam gas industry in our neighbourhood as promised pre-election.
What is the point of giving with one hand and taking with the other?
