Development officer for Central West NSW rugby union Jarrod Simpson was recently part of a meeting with club executives and said the restrictions had eased enough for a competition in 2020 to be more than feasible.
"With the health orders the way they are, we feel like we can run a competition," Simpson said.
"People were very keen to have a season and it won't be the usual standard but the idea was well supported and clubs are really interested."
The restrictions surrounding community sports are ever changing and Simpson's eyes are always fixed on the governing bodies and their rolling updates.
"NSW Rugby has all the resources and they will provide the information," he said.
"They're very up to date and aware of the changes. They're very helpful with those sorts of things."

With 10 junior teams and 12 walla teams committed, Simpson's expecting the regular season to stretch for nine weeks before sides dive into a finals series.
"Hopefully we'll be able to get an even draw out there," he said.
"It's a good opportunity for kids to get out there and play with their mates.
"It should be nice and warm at that time of the year and people will be happy to get outside after a period of restrictions. I'm looking forward to putting together a good competition."
CWJRU took to its Facebook page to give further updates on the matter:
"CWJRU has provided all clubs options for dates that the competition is able to be held. All clubs have provided their feedback on these time frames. CWJRU will further discuss this with clubs and announce the competition dates and structure shortly.
After discussing proposed dates and models with clubs and confirming participating teams, the CWJRU will complete a draw for the season. It is hoped that this will be released to club presidents for feedback by Friday July 3.
The CWJRU will also host the Walla's age group carnivals on Sunday August 8 and Sunday September 8. Clubs have been contacted and asked that they express their interest in hosting these events."
The Central West Rugby Union senior competitions are currently tracking towards a July 18 start date.
