Firstly, Dean Pay found out the Canterbury Bulldogs' match scheduled for Sunday afternoon was postponed due to a COVID-19 scan while north of the border Wellington junior Kotoni Staggs suffered a hamstring injury at Brisbane training.
The injury is a huge blow for Staggs and the Broncos after he made a strong return from suspension on Thursday night.
While his side lost the match, Staggs' scored the Broncos' opening try and was shaping as key to the side's hopes of rediscovering top form.
The former Cowboy will undergo scans this week but seems destined to miss Thursday night's meeting with Newcastle.
"We'll definitely miss him if he's to be out this weekend," Broncos' teammate Jamayne Isaako said.
"We all know what Tones brings to the team and how valuable he is within the team."
Meanwhile, Dubbo product Pay has an extra 24 hours to prepare for the Bulldogs' clash with the Roosters.
A child of One of Dogs' prop Aidan Tolman attends a school in the Sutherland Shire where a staff member has tested positive for COVID-19.
Sunday's match was immediately postponed and Tolman subsequently tested negative, meaning the match is locked in for Monday night.
Elsewhere in the NRL, Ivan Cleary has confirmed Penrith are likely to keep a playmaker on the bench moving forward.
After impressing in back-to-back matches in the absence of Nathan Cleary, former Dubbo CYMS star Matt Burton dropped back to the bench for last Friday's match against the Eels.
He entered the fray late and while he was lively he couldn't help his side topple the Eels in what was one of the matches of the season up to this point.
"I thought Matt could be beneficial for us late in the game against tired defenders," Cleary said following the 16-10 loss.
"He went close a couple of times.
"We've had that role work for us in early games ... fresh legs and people who can do damage late in the game is something we might play around with."
The Panthers meet the Melbourne Storm next round.
