Major supermarkets Coles and Woolworths have announced they'll return to packing customers' reusable bags at the checkout from Monday.
Both companies had earlier stopped the service as they sought to minimise handling at the check-out during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Woolworths made the announcement, with the proviso as long as the bags were "clean for our team to handle".
"For peace of mind, Woolworths will offer a like for like replacement if a reusable bag isn't hygienic for our team to handle," the company said in a press release.
In an email to customers, Coles Group CEO Steven Cain said the company would also provide a replacement bag if desired.
