Fire and Rescue NSW has released its Winter Fire Safety Checklist to help families increase their chances of survival if a fire were to occur inside your home this winter.
Fire and Rescue NSW responds to more than 4500 residential fires every year, with winter the busiest time due to the increased use of heaters and other appliances to keep warm.

The kitchen is also a danger area, with 40 per cent of residential fires starting as a result of appliances overheating or stove-top cooking being left unattended.
Inspector Timothy Climo is urging everyone to download a copy of the checklist from www.fire.nsw.gov.au and make it a priority to complete this weekend.
"It doesn't take long to complete. For any additional home fire safety tips please visit the Fire and Rescue NSW website," Inspector Climo said.
