But, there was a slight question mark.
With so many places still closed, why would people be travelling to their favourite holiday spot? Wouldn't it be better to stay at home until more opened up again?
So the news that Taronga Western Plains Zoo will be opening its gates back up is big indeed for our region - one of our biggest draw-cards for people travelling to Dubbo is available once again.
And it's already drawing interest with phone calls and online booking inquiries ramping up before the zoo had even announced it would also be opening on June 1.
After two plus months of sitting at home people are keen to get out. Keen to get outside, see their friends, see their family and get away from the house they have been stuck in.
People are keen for travel, and while at the moment state and international borders remain closed for recreational trips, interstate travel is the item on the list.
And June 1 is the date.
So it's great news that not only can people travel once again, they can come and visit Dubbo, spend up in the restaurants, cafes and our local shops, and see some of the great attractions we have to offer once again.
While a day at the zoo might not look like it once did, with new measures in place to make sure people are social distancing and keeping safe, it's still a day at the zoo for a bit of fun.
And it's going to help kick-start things around the city once again.
Those people looking to visit the zoo need somewhere to stay, somewhere to eat, and a few other things to do around town.
And all of that helps our local businesses and our wider community in some way.
