Mr Mundine was in Dubbo on Wednesday to launch the first Indigenous road barriers in NSW. They were created through his business MGM, with the help of 22 Indigenous youths.

One of Mr Mundine's key goals when working with the youths is ensuring he's always in contact if they need to talk.

"Today we have mental health issues out there that take lives at a young age and it's not slowing down. We've got to try and put our fingers on that and help as much as we can. That's why I give my number out freely," he said.

"I might get pestered, I might get some prank calls now and again but it's worth it if I can save one life."

Mr Mundine said he tells the youths if they're ever in a bad place they should give him a call.

He also encourages them to strive for their goals.

"I try and give back...show them anything is possible if you make the right choices in life, stay away from the drink, stay away from the drugs, and you can live a very productive life. Set yourself goals and you can start to achieve those goals. Anyone can do it, it's not rocket science," Mr Mundine said.

He said he wanted the youths to know anything was possible.
