Dubbo Regional Council is looking at a way to rejuvenate the CBD and make use of the underutilised land on the bank of the Macquarie River.
Two plans were developed and the public has chosen a favourite.
The Wandering Stage received 63 per cent of the votes. The most important features of the plan were identified as the boardwalk, riverside stage, disabled-compliant amenities and native corridor plantings.

The project has been costed at $3.5 million, however, that could changed based on the results of geotechnical investigations. Council has received just over $3.5 million from the NSW government for the project.
Dubbo councillor Vicki Etheridge said it was "really exciting stuff".
"It's going to rejuvenate the whole CBD area. It's going to get more people out there interacting. I think it's just fantastic," she said.
Deputy mayor Stephen Lawrence said he believed local residents wouldn't resist if ratepayer funds were needed to finish the plan as it was an important project.
