Two years ago more than 1500 people turned up on Sunday to run in the rain.
Last year, similar numbers ran on tracks around Dubbo and around Taronga Western Plains Zoo.
This year, already 100 people have put their names down on the first day of registrations for the new-look virtual Dubbo Stampede.
Like so many events and businesses, things have changed a bit this year, and the annual Dubbo Stampede is no different.
Due to uncertainties around public gatherings later this year amid coronavirus pandemic restrictions, the committee have decided to hold a virtual event so the stampede can continue in 2020, you just won't get to run around the zoo with 1500 other people.
And already it's been pretty popular - though that's not something we are too surprised to hear.
This year the Stampede hosts it's ninth event, and although the committee could have decided to cancel it, with the uncertain times at the moment, they have instead decided to go ahead and work towards keeping the momentum for this great community event ahead of their 10th year in 2021.
Each year the Stampede work with community groups to raise funds for projects around town - the lights near the Macquarie River are can be partially attributed to their great work.
Being part of the event is like no other in the world - running those last five kilometres around the zoo, with the animals 'cheering' you on, is really something special.
Which is why we are so happy to see it continue this year. And while we might be running around our own neighborhoods, in different towns, we will still be together taking part in the Dubbo Stampede.
