The federal government's current roadmap projects that restrictions on pubs and large gatherings won't fully ease until the final stage, which might not be soon enough for many owners.
Joanne Blair, one of the owners and operators of the Milestone Hotel in Dubbo and the Orana delegate to the Australian Hotel Association, says trade at the moment has been 'dismal'.

Like many businesses, the Milestone is electing to do takeaway food only for now, but the current situation has made times very tough.
"I have very few staff in active work at the moment, about forty percent of our staff were eligible for JobKeeper and of them, less than half have been working, it's been very distressing for everyone," Ms Blair said.
I don't know how you ever plan for this... many country pubs probably won't re-open.

"We're seeing very little in terms of the orders and it's very difficult at the moment, we can plan at all, it's very hard."
"We've been told we're not allowed to open the doors to ten people at a time like some businesses."
Ms Blair said that due to her role with the AHA, she'd heard from many publicans across the state who were fearful of never being able to open their doors again.
"I don't know how you ever plan for this in business and people's livelihoods are on the line right now, many country pubs probably won't re-open," Ms Blair said.
"Many of them just won't be able to make it through, everyone's trying to be as positive as they can and keep working within the realm of restrictions we've got, but a lot of people are very frustrated right now."
Ms Blair said many patrons had also become frustrated and that she'd had to field questions about why pubs were remaining closed in areas with no new cases.
"It's an extremely difficult time," Ms Blair said.
"I'd like to see the local community really supporting our local pubs right now."
