Community and Youth Engagement Coordinator Amy Mines said the groups were an important part of the services headspace offer.
"It was really important for us to find a way to continue these despite COVID-19 and even more important to enable young people to stay socially connected and pursuing hobbies that they are interested in to support their mental health."
The social group's sessions are aimed at youth aged from 12 to 20-years.
"Young people will be able to connect with other young people with similar interests and create social connections, especially whilst they are not attending school as regularly as they were pre-COVID-19. They run using Zoom and incorporate other online games and activities such as Kahoot for trivia group."
Some of these group largely focus on the LGBTQ+ community.
"Young LGBTIQA+ people generally require more assistance in meeting and connecting with other young LGBTIQA+ people.
"It was really important to us to make sure these groups, in particular, were reinstated as soon as possible to reduce any feelings of isolation young LGBTIQA+ people may be experiencing, especially if they are living in environments that are less supportive of their identity. We wanted to make sure the groups were up and running in time for May 17th which is the International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia so people knew headspace Dubbo have their backs and stand with them as their allies."
Mrs Mines said people interested in joining who may be nervous could think about getting a friend to join with them.
"They can also indicate on the registration form that they would like a call from a headspace team member and the group facilitator can make contact and introduce themselves to the person initially so they feel less overwhelmed about joining. Young people also have the freedom to be able to leave the group at any time."
