A site around 30 kilometres south-east of Wellington, and positioned east of Lake Burrendong, is currently being investigated as the potential home for Epuron's Burrendong Wind Farm.

Epuron's General Manager for Wind Development Andrew Wilson says that the location and the environment's features make it an ideal location to generate clean, renewable energy.

"We think it's a very good site, there's a relatively sparse population, there's not many small land holdings that would be disturbed by the wind farm construction," Mr Wilson said.

"We did some initial research, but we don't always capture everyone and everyone's properties by doing that, so we want to work with the land owners and the broader community."

"You look at reasons why you constrain your wind farms, impact on biodiversity and visual impact on residents, we have to explore all those potential constraints."

While the project is still a while away, with Mr Wilson anticipating a three or four year turnaround if everything goes to plan, the longer timeline also means a larger scale construction effort, with more jobs available.

"Bodangora Wind Farm had somewhere in the region of 120 to 130 jobs during their two year construction period, this would probably be a bit of a bigger scale, we'd be looking at around 150 to 200 jobs," Mr Wilson said.

"Typically, the construction work gets linked to a major firm, but sub contracts and plant personnel will get employed from the local region."

While they're nowhere near close to breaking ground, Mr Wilson said that by planning ahead, they'd be able to make the development go as smoothly as possible for everyone involved.

"We want to avoid unexpected things as much as possible, a critical thing for a wind farm is of course a good wind resource and those exposed ridges in that location are a great place to start."
