California has become the first US state to order mail-in ballots be issued to all registered voters for the November presidential elections as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Governor Gavin Newsom announced the move during a Friday press conference, saying the mail-in ballots will give 20.6 million registered voters the ability to avoid polling booths "where their health may be at risk".
Multiple states already conduct entirely vote-by-mail elections. However, no state has ordered every voter to receive mail-in ballots in light of the coronavirus outbreak.
Public health and voting rights advocates have called for widespread mail-in ballots across the country, however, many Republicans, including President Donald Trump, have claimed they are more likely to be subject to fraud.
