As part of the Government's economic response to the coronavirus, $1.3 billion will be made available to more than 70,000 small businesses to help keep around 117,000 apprentices and trainees across Australia in work and training.
Eligible employers will receive assistance in the form of a wage subsidy, reimbursing 50 per cent of the apprentice's or trainee's wage for a period of nine months, from January 1, 2020, to September 30, 2020.

Skillset Dubbo welcomed the announcement and the support the stimulus package will provide to essential workers in jobs across regional NSW.
Skillset chief executive officer Craig Randazzo said the subsidy will support businesses to manage the many cash-flow challenges that have been presented due to the coronavirus crisis and help the smaller businesses to retain their apprentices and trainees.
"This will ultimately ensure continued development of a skilled workforce that our regional communities' need," Mr Randazzo said.
Dubbo construction company LH Tiling and Co, is one of the many small businesses who will be able to access the wage subsidy as they currently host Ryda Deveson.
Mr Daveson is a second year tiling apprentice.
"During the current economic climate, the subsidy has provided financial relief for both my employees and family," LH Tiling and Co owner Luke Harding said.
Mr Harding said his wife, who is also a small business owner, was one of the many who was forced to shut her business down during the pandemic period.
"As the sole provider for my family, I am grateful for the ability to continue operating," Mr Harding said.
