Previously the Wellington Boot Races Art Competition saw local artists create unique works with the Race Club purchasing the winning design and used as the basis for the Wellington Boot Race's advertising.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 Wellington Boot Race meeting will go ahead, but no spectators are allowed to attend.
The theme is 'racing' and the winning artist will receive $500 and their art work will be used for Wellington Race Club's 2021 Wellington Boot Race promotions.
Artists have to discretely feature '2021' somewhere in the work and any medium is allowed.

Last year the competition received 26 entries, Wellington Arts committee president Lisa Thomas said, with artists hailing from Wellington Orange, and Dubbo.
"We're all going ahead and still very excited about it and trying to encourage people across our region to get involved in it because it's a great opportunity for you to be showcasing you're own art and if you are selected (as the winner) you've got the prestigious out come of being on the 2021 posters," Ms Thomas said.
Originally the artworks were going to be auctioned at the race club, but that was cancelled due the government's restrictions and banning of spectators at meetings.
To keep visitors and volunteers safe, the Wellington Arts committee have decided to enclose the art work by exhibiting them in the windows of Western Stores building.
"Last year it was mainly framed artworks.... but with the change of circumstances this year we've decided to open it all to any medium of art...," Ms Thomas explained.
From April 3 to 19, people will be able to wander past and check out each work.
Ms Thomas said the extended exhibition opening times will allow locals and visitors the chance to see the works.
"It will give people, especially those travelling through and the community, the opportunity to appreciate (the works) through the windows," she explained.
All artworks will be for sale including the winning work. Artists can drop off their works to the Wellington Visitor Information Centre during business and weekend hours. The closing date is April, 1 at 5pm.
Judging will take place on Friday, April 3.
