And that's what made Saturday's Golden Slipper win with Farnan all the more special.
The $4.80 favourite ran the fastest first 600m and the fastest last 600m to hand Bowman his first win in the world's richest two-year-old race.
"I mean Sydney has been my home since I started riding and this is the signature race for me growing up and to win it - I'm just lost for words and so proud and thankful to connections to instill the trust in me to do the job," Bowman said.

Farnan fought off a challenge from Away Game to take the victory when Bowman asked for more speed.
"I could sense the pressure coming at the 200m and I hadn't asked for full throttle but when I did my word he responded and responded in style," he said.
It finished a week of real contrast for Bowman.
Last Sunday he was riding at a packed Coonamble Jockey Club and there he won a $30,000 maiden with the Mack Griffith-trained Royal Monarch.
At Rosehill on Saturday he won the $3.4 million Slipper but in front of only a few hundred due to the coronavirus pandemic and all racing now being closed to the public.
