Ms Patteson is one of the participants in the 2020 Stars of Dubbo Dance for Cancer, which raises money for the Cancer Council. The event was scheduled for May 1 at the Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre but organisers recently announced it would be rescheduled due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19.

But while she doesn't yet have a date for her performance, Ms Patteson said she would still be busy practicing.

Ms Patteson already has a slight edge over her competitors. She's been taking dance classes with Orana Dance Centre and has been doing physical culture with Orana Physical Culture.

"I've been doing physie for 23 years, so I've got a little bit of experience and I've danced in front of people before," she said.

Despite her "little bit" of experience, the star said she was enjoying her rehearsals with Miss Sharlene because she was still learning a lot.

She's keeping her routine secret.

"I'm doing something different. It's not your typical jazzy, boppy type of dance," Ms Patteson said.

"Miss Sharlene is making use of what I can do."

The performers participation with the Stars of Dubbo Dance for Cancer came about thanks to multiple nominations from Anytime Fitness Dubbo members.

It was something Ms Patteson said she had wanted to do for a while.

"I went to the Stars of Dubbo last year and watched the performances and I thought 'some day I'm going to do this'," Ms Patteson said.

"It's such a fun way to raise money and awareness of what the Cancer Council does. They support people who have cancer and their families who are affected by cancer."

Cancer is on both side of Ms Patteson's family. Twenty years ago she lost a family member to the disease and another family member has been diagnosed with cancer only recently.

More than $4600 has already been raised for the Stars of Dubbo Dance for Cancer.

While a new date has yet to be set for the event, donations to each star can still be made at the Cancer Council's Stars of Dubbo website.
