Dubbo mayor Ben Shields says a Facebook post with his name on it saying the taxpayers are the traditional owners of the land was created by a fake profile.

The post says "Today on Facebook, I'd like to acknowledge the traditional owners of this land - the taxpayer."
It goes on to say "For over 200 years [they have] been persecuted and as a people they have been through a huge ordeal, yet they continue to survive rich in heritage and perseverance.".

The screenshot shows the post from December 20, 2010 has come from a Ben Shields page, using a photo of the mayor and his dog.
But while the mayor did not wish to comment on the post, he denied publishing it. Cr Shields said it was a fake account designed to look like his.
