THE coronavirus pandemic has proved to be a show stopper in Dubbo with the city's annual show called off for public safety.

Dubbo Show was set to celebrate its 147th year in 2020 and had a huge line up of events planned for its three day event that was to run from May 22-24.
On Tuesday, however, Dubbo Show Society president Christopher Edwards said the event would no longer go ahead.

"It is with regret that we have to inform you that due to the NSW Government Gazette No 48 dated March 16 and the Prime Minister of Australia's direction that any organised mass gathering over 500 people should be cancelled," he said.
"The safety and wellbeing of our patrons and visitors is paramount."
The Dubbo Show cancellation comes following news that they Sydney Royal Easter Show would be canned for 2020.
While there may be no confirmed cases of coronavirus in Western NSW, the spread of the virus across the state has affected wide range of events.
The ABBA Festival has been postponed, greyhound races are on but the public are not allowed to attend, the Dubbo Westview Drive-In has been postponed, Anzac Day services are off, and next month's Red Hot Summer Tour has also been canned.
While Charles Sturt University in Dubbo is still running class, the vice chancellor said it was prepared for campus shutdowns.
