The works, which were built through the Department of Education, also include a new storage shed. Geurie Public School principal Trish Farley said the idea for the shed and sheltered area came about in 2018.
After speaking to the P&C, who happily came on board with fundraising, they then spoke with Dubbo MP Dugald Saunders who was also more than willing to support the project
"Our sporting equipment was all over the school in different store rooms so to have an area where all the equipment could be in allows for easy access for the children to use it," Ms Farley explained.
"Prior to and since the election I have been working to try and get this project off the ground for Geurie and I am very excited for the school community... that it has come to fruition," Mr Saunders said.
Ms Farley said the students are so excited to have a new, sheltered space to play at and use it every day.
She said the space also allows for the teachers to have a new educational area to teach in.
Now the school will be looking to add a garden and rainwater tanks to the space.
Geurie Public School parent Chris Newberry said it was a fantastic project to have completed for the students as it gives them an area to play out of the sun and store their equipment.
"It also gives them somewhere to play when it's raining... before on wet days they were playing inside," he said.
