The centre said that while the injury rehab he'd had to undergo in between seasons for an injury suffered while playing for Tonga last year had prevented him from getting as much training time as he would have liked, the team was showing promising signs on field.
"My body's feeling pretty good at the moment, pre-season was pretty tough for the boys, I was coming back from some injuries, I didn't really do as much on the field as I wanted to do," Staggs said.

Staggs said he was seeing promising signs from his new partners in the backline, Brodie Croft and Jesse Arthars, who will be joining Staggs on the right flank in the centers and out on the wing.
"It's good, especially having Crofty on my side, we've been working on a lot of combos down our right side," Staggs said.
"I've got a new winger with me in Jesse Arthars as well, so me and him are trying to see what works for us, but Crofty's a good talker and he knows what he's doing out there."
