On Wednesday Dubbo Regional Council announced the public information session on water would run between 9am and 10.30am on Tuesday, March 10.

On Thursday it advised the event would be live streamed and the video uploaded from "start to end" on its website.

Dubbo Regional Council wants to "brief the community" on its current and future water strategies but has scheduled a public information session during working hours.

The 90-minute session on Tuesday will run from 9am to 10.30am in the conference room of the council's headquarters on the corner of Church and Darling streets.

Residents, ratepayers, business people and the media have been invited to the briefing.

It will be led by council's new director of infrastructure Julian Geddes in the company of WaterNSW staff.

Mr Geddes will provide an update on water usage in the Dubbo region and speak about "strategies and capital works in progress".

"This is an opportunity for the public to hear firsthand about what DRC is doing to secure the region's future water supply, in the immediate and distant future," he said.

WaterNSW will cover the "current situation" with the drought, Burrendong Dam and the Macquarie River.

The council is lamenting recent and "decent" rainfall has not fallen in the dam's catchment, leaving it "still only sitting at 4.5 per cent" of capacity.

It is telling the community of "still working on ways of ensuring water supplies are extended for much longer".

"Dubbo Regional Council is still constructing its pipeline network, which will add additional groundwater to the system for domestic use and a recycled water pipeline to free up additional water supplies currently used in some parks and gardens, and provide other strategic options for council to consider," Mr Geddes said.
