Police are appealing for information about the case, including the theft of a white Subaru Impreza from a property on Douglas Mawson Drive at around 10pm on Sunday evening.
The vehicle was returned to the premises shortly after with tyre damage and a white Toyota Hilux was then stolen.
Around 11.45pm, the stolen Hilux was used as a batting ram to smash through the front doors of an IGA supermaket on Tamworth street.

Inspector Dan Skelly called the theft 'disgusting', but said police have located the Hilux as part of their investigation and are conducting forensic testing on both vehicles.
"The car has been recovered, it was recovered by police yesterday in Twickenham drive on the East side of Dubbo, the Subaru that was stolen first and the car recovered yesterday are now the subjects of forensic tests, which we hope will uncover evidence that will point us in the right direction," Inspector Skelly said.
"It was four kids, they crashed into the doors with a ute, grabbed a whole bunch of smokes and even tried to grab a register, though we don't hold the money on the premises," Mr Ashcroft said.
"It was almost comical, they definitely weren't professionals, they were very panicked and the driver almost hit two of them on the way out."
Mr Ashcroft said the costs associated with replacing the door could be significant.
"We're looking at $20,000 for the glass doors and possibly $5000 to $10,000 for the roller door, so it could be as much as $30,000 just for the door."
Mr Ashcroft also said the total value of the stolen items wasn't clear yet and would need to be totalled up when the store did stock-take.
Mr Ashcroft said he was 'disappointed' with what transpired, especially given the store's large customer base.
"It is disappointing, we're serving over 10,000 customers a week, so you want to be there for them, right now it's looking like a four week turnaround on the doors and in the mean time we'll be using a chip-board door, which is obviously not ideal."
Mr Ashcroft said the store would have to hire security to patrol the premises from now on.
Officers attached to the Orana Mid-Western Police District attended the scene and have commenced an investigation, and are calling for anyone with information to contact either Dubbo Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
