Dubbo's not as bad as it used to be- it's quiet the cleaner town and it's people like me- the quiet achievers- who go around and pick up rubbish off the streets that make quite the difference. There's a few of us around.
- Rodney Nott

Mr Nott joined the group "around eight years ago" after retirement and collects rubbish along the Macquarie River and around his neighbourhood on a daily basis during his morning walks.
"It keeps me fit," Mr Nott jokes.
Mr Nott said he believes since groups volunteering to clean up and thanks to individuals who constantly do their bit to aid in a tidier community the amount of rubbish scattering the roads and rivers around Dubbo has decreased significantly.
"I don't think there's as much rubbish around as there used to be, I honestly don't," Mr Nott said.

Mr Nott said he's gotten to know quite a lot of people through his voluntary work and said a lot of people thank him for doing it.
Mr Nott said the Clean Up Australia Day drive is a good opportunity for a good social outing.
"I think people like to be out and doing it," he said.
"It's good, you get a good group of people out doing a good deed."
But, there is one thing that does weigh on Mr Notts optimism.
"I find it quite depressing- the people who put the rubbish out on the footpaths and in the river instead of doing the right thing and putting it in the bin," he said.
Dubbo Rivercare Group president Ros Williams said Mr Nott is cherished volunteer among the group. "We are always happy to welcome new members. It's not a commitment thing either- you don't have to dedicate any certain amount of time to doing it. There's something for everyone to do, our older member is 83," she said.
Ms Williams said anyone interested in becoming a member can contact them through their Facebook page- Dubbo Rivercare Group.
