The fight for a coveted finals spot in the RSL Whitney Cup is is set on a knife's edge, with the top four teams all capable of booking a finals berth depending on the results of the final two rounds.
Both rounds will be two-day fixtures, but the eventual make-up of the semi-finals and the minor premier could be decided this weekend, with only two points separating first and second on the competition ladder.
Macquarie currently remain at the top of the ladder, but their loss last round to the second placed CYMS Cougars has reduced the two teams to a two point gap, with the RSL Colts nipping at CYMS heels from third place with 54 points and the Tigers sitting a distance behind on 50.
Macquarie will have to contend with a resurgent RSL Colts side with a rejuvenated batting line-up after Jason Ryan belted out a century and gave the Colts' tail room to move in his side's win over South Dubbo that kept them in third place.
While the ladder leaders were hampered last time out by a difficult pitch, they'll likely be looking to their top order to score runs often and early in the delayed return to two-day cricket in order to keep the minor premiership in their grasp.
While Newtown have kept themselves within striking distance of Colts with a win over Rugby last time out, they'll still need results to go their way in order to move into third or second spot on the ladder.
Newtown have yet to score a win over CYMS this season, falling short in round four after an opening batting effort from Brock Larance boosted CYMS to a win in the two sides only meeting this year.
Newtown will likely need two victories in a row in the competition's final two rounds, and for Colts to suffer a defeat, in order to carve a path into finals contention, and a victory over the surging CYMS would be the perfect way to build momentum quickly in the final stretch.
While neither Rugby or Souths will feature in the finals this year after being mathematically excluded from a finals spot on points, both sides will have the opportunity to finish strong and play a role in deciding the finals entrants as they go head to head this weekend, then play spoiler next round.
