Ms Lamont was awarded the Ian Locke Memorial Award for displaying clinical excellence.
Ms Ashton, who earned her own distinction for her work with her studies and through her record of academic excellence, said she saw it as recognition of the amount of support she'd had in her journey.
'It's nice to be recognised, but it's something I share with all the midwives who've supported me."
Ms Ashton said the opportunity to help other women was part of what drew her to the career.
"It's about working with women in a positive situation and also empowering them to make their own choices as well."
