Proud Wiradjuri elder Peter Peckham initiated the Welcome to the Country before commencing a smoking ceremony to officiate the opening of the District Court for the year.
It was also the first Dubbo opening for new Judge Nanette Williams, who is the first woman to be have been appointed to permanently preside at the Dubbo District Court.
Judge Williams said the rule of law is fundamental to any community. Senior Crown NSW Prosecutor Chris Maxwell QC and Senior Public Defender Belinder Rigg SC were also invited to speak at the ceremony.
A service was then held at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church.
