Dubbo received 14mm of rain to 9am on Sunday and then another 8mm to 5pm, the Bureau of Meteorology recorded at the airport weather station.

It takes the February total to 53.6mm, the highest monthly tally since January 2019.

Dubbo's Mia Meek Houghton made the most of the opportunity to play in the rain.

"She was very excited to get out with the umbrella and her gumboots," mum Emma Meek said.

Adults were also thrilled at the opening of the heavens.

Kelly Godwin sent a photo to the Daily Liberal of a dam brimming with water, saying "it was dry" until the rainfall.

Recent days brought the most promising forecast for some time, and by the weekend's end it had come to fruition for a number of districts.

Coonabarabran recorded falls of 14, 11 and 16mm respectively in the past three days, the bureau recorded.

Peak Hill had 17mm to 9am on Sunday.

Trangie had 4.2mm in the 24 hours to 9am on Saturday.

That was followed up by 21.2mm to 9am Sunday and another 14.8mm to 5pm Sunday.

Warren Shire mayor Milton Quigley said the rain that had fallen would make a "significant difference".

"Since Wednesday we've had 80mm just where we live, and that's going to create a potential for winter crops for those around us," he said.

"So it's a long way in front of where we've been for the past couple of years, that's for sure."
