But this afternoon the district received patchy rain ranging from 5mm to 40mm in what has been forecasted as the start of widespread rain expected across the state in the coming days.
Former Nyngan stock agent Don Lister said there had been patchy rain at Nyngan with 18mm in town, 5mm around 50km south-west of the town and in the north 40mm.
"There are some good storms about but it looks to have finished for today," Mr Lister said around 5.30pm.
"There are a line of storms out the back of Cobar at Bourke right now."

But he said it was a different story on Sunday when the region was hit by another dust storm.
"We had to turn the lights on at 3pm because it was so dark," he said.
"We've had heaps of dust storms hopefully this rain will dampen it."
He said there had been handy rain at Cobar with the road closed between Cobar and Bourke due to flooding.
"I was speaking to someone from Coonamble at they had 22mm about 2pm and I'm told there is also rain at Inverell."
The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) duty forecaster David Wilke said the good news there was more rain on the rain.
Mr Wilke said there was an unsettled weather pattern driven from an offshore trough and inland trough with a deep easterly across NSW.
"There is a lot of moisture building up across NSW, which will see showers for much of the state for the coming week," he said.
Up until 5pm February 5 Dubbo had recorded the highest rainfall with 24.2mm while Walgett had 20mm.
Meanwhile BOM has issued a severe weather warning for parts of the Northern Rivers, Mid North Coast and eastern parts of the Northern Tablelands from Thursday.
Heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding in those locations with flood watch alerts issued for some rivers in those areas.
