Locals in the village of Geurie, are organising a fundraiser for their local NSW Rural Fire Service brigade in February, with all funds being used to finish off renovating the toilets and showers at the station.
Event organiser Jenny Stanton said she, like all Australians, was aware of the bushfire fundraising efforts happening right around the country, but wanted to help her local brigade at a grass-roots level.
"Our guys are a small, dedicated crew. I wanted to do something but thought 'let's do it local'," she explained.
The Geurie RFS crew has been called out to assist in the firefighting efforts so know first-hand how devastating the bushfires have been.
"I thought it would be nice to do something for them. They're over the moon (with the fundraiser)," Ms Stanton said.

Geurie RFS crew member Chris Newberry said it was incredible that the community wanted to put on the event for them.
"And support us in what we're doing," he said.
Preparations for the February 16 fundraiser were going really well, Ms Stanton said, adding that there would be plenty of children's entertainment.
There will also be live music from 4pm and a barbecue tea.

Being a chef, Ms Stanton thought of the idea to hold a kids cupcake decorating table at the fundraiser.
She said everyone had been so generous and enthusiastic about the event.
"Everyone is very supportive of it," Ms Stanton said.
"I'm really excited about it and it's just taken off."
The fundraiser will be held at the Mitchell Inn Hotel from 3pm.
