A total of 28 interns started work at Dubbo and Orange hospitals on Tuesday.
WNSWLHD executive director of medical services Dr Clayton Spencer said intern places within the district were in high demand.
"This year's cohort of 28 junior doctors is the largest ever number of interns recruited for WNSWLHD," he said.

"It's great to see the interest that new doctors have in starting their careers in our district, taking advantage of the hospitals' facilities and specialist medical expertise.
"At the same time, they will get first-hand experience of the advantages that come from living and working in western NSW."
The interns have been selected through NSW Health's Rural Preferential Recruitment program, co-ordinated by the Health Education and Training Institute.
Dr Spencer said the medical graduates would train for two years at Dubbo and Orange hospitals across a "range of clinical specialties".
He said the WNSWLHD hoped the junior doctors would look to stay in the bush.
"At the completion of the two-year residency program, many of these doctors will go on to undertake specialty training," he said.
"We are all looking forward to working with our new junior doctors and hope that many of them will choose rural practice within our communities and into the future."
