Only 3.4 millimetres (mm) of rain was recorded at Dubbo City Regional Airport in the 24 hours to 9am on Friday morning, albeit backyard rain gauges collected more.
But the Bureau of Meteorology's (BoM) seven-day forecast for Dubbo as of Friday told of an 80 per cent chance of rain on Monday with the possibility of up to 15mm falling on dry lawns and gardens.

Otherwise, rain may be scarce across the forecast period.
On Friday the BoM was forecasting a 30 per cent chance of rain on Saturday but only 1mm of rain may fall.
On Sunday the chance of rain increases to 60 per cent with the possibility of up to 6mm of rain landing on the city.
Thunderstorms were predicted for every day of the seven-day period except Tuesday and Wednesday.
Average rainfall in Dubbo in the month of January is 56.9mm.
On Friday morning the city had received a total of 21.8mm this January, including 15.6mm in the 24 hours to 9am on January 7.
The BoM was forecasting a 70 per cent chance of rain on Friday afternoon and evening.
Meanwhile, residents are set to enjoy below-average maximum temperatures up until Wednesday including 30 degrees Celsius on Saturday and 31 degrees on Sunday.
The average top temperature in Dubbo during January is 33.5 degrees Celsius.
On Wednesday the maximum temperature is forecast to jump to 37 degrees followed by 36 degrees on Thursday.
The average minimum temperature in Dubbo in January is 18.4 degrees.
Early morning temperatures are expected to be below average until Monday when they will begin to climb to a peak of 23 degrees on Thursday.
