At 9am on Thursday, January 9, emergency services were called to bushland near Sunflash Street and Black Prince Drive at Lightning Ridge, following the discovery of a woman's body.
The woman has since been formally identified as 39-year-old Christine Neilan.
A post mortem examination revealed she died from serious head injuries.
Christine lived in Lightning Ridge with her mother since late last year and was known to walk around the local area with her white dog called Sooky.
On Thursday morning NSW Police will address the media to appeal for information following Ms Neilan's suspicious death.
