Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
An emergency warning has been issued for the fire north-east of Coonabarabran. According to the Rural Fire Service, "the fire is spreading quickly on the western side of the Newell Highway".
So far the bushfire at Bugaldie that has burnt about 625 hectares but has been classified as 'being controlled'.

Anyone who needs to travel can use the Oxley Highway and Kamilaroi Highway via Gunnedah. Allow extra travel time.
Motorists already travelling along the Newell Highway in the area should follow the directions of emergency services.

An out of control bushfire has also started in the Pilliga National Park. The Rural Fire Service is working to contain the blaze.
