Two 'Richies' from Dubbo, Richard Pawlanko and Richard Mutton, went to the test match in Sydney last week and were the only two of more than 300 'Richie's' at the Sydney Cricket Ground to actually share the same name as the man they were honouring.
"We pay $150 that gets us our wigs, a mic, breakfast before the days play and singing practice," Mr Mutton said.
"We sang songs all day to the players, and they were a hit with other members of the crowd. Everyone loves the Richie's, the crowd, the police, everyone thinks they are terrific.
"We honour the great man Richie Benaud, but this year we also raised funds for the Rural Fire Service NSW.
"I can't say precisely how much, but we passed around a red fire hat and it went around three times, each time filling up with $50 and $20 notes.
"It is such a good day at the cricket. It was great to be a Richie at the SCG."
