Wellington jockey Kath Bell-Pitomac returned to the racing track on Tuesday, January 7 after almost a year out of the saddle.

In March 2019, Bell-Pitomac was involved in a dramatic fall at the Tamworth Country Championships which saw a total of four jockeys hospitalised and the death of two horses.
The Wellington jockey was back in action on Tuesday, riding for Dubbo trainer Merv Rumble on Stone in the 1400 metre first race at Mudgee.
Ahead of the races, Bell-Pitomac told Sky Racing that it was awesome to be back and that she tried to be as ready as she could.
"Before I felt like it took me a year to get to that point where I felt like I was going well so hopefully I can come off a bit quicker this time round," she said.
Despite leading early, Bell-Pitomac and the five-year-old old bay gelding placed sixth.
She then rode for another Dubbo trainer, Connie Greig, in the sixth race on Naoko.
Bell-Pitomac and the eight-year-old mare also placed sixth.
