A Wellington man accused of stealing cash from a bank in Dubbo's main street got away with nothing after brave staff intervened and forced him to leave empty handed.

Police were called to the Commonwealth Bank in Macquarie Street about 2.10pm on Monday December 30 after Paul William Stanley allegedly took a bag of cash from a security officer inside the bank.
According to police, bank staff intervened and got the bag full of cash back from the 50-year-old who fled empty handed.
He was later arrested by police at a Church Street address in Dubbo.
Mr Stanley was charged with stealing between $5,000 and $15,000 from the bank, police confirmed. He was refused bail in Dubbo Local Court will reappear in Wellington Local Court on February 19.
Australian Community Media understands Mr Stanley has not yet entered a plea.
A Commonwealth Bank spokesman said the bank was closed for about an hour while police investigated the alleged theft.
"No staff or customers were injured as a result of the incident," the spokesman said. "Our first priority is the safety of our employees, customers and members of public," he advised.
