Dubbo residents are being asked to turn off their evaporative air conditioners when they leave home and abide by restrictions on outdoor watering.

Dubbo Regional Council chief executive officer (CEO) Michael McMahon continues to offer advice on saving water as its data shows residents are using more than the level four water restrictions target of 280 litres (L) per person per day.
In the week ending December 15, average daily use per person was 348L.

The CEO has suggested high temperatures and increased use of air conditioners "may be the reason behind the spike".
"External watering is still an area of concern," he said.
"It is very important the community adheres to the 30 minutes twice a week."
The CEO is asking residents to be "mindful of shower times", to turn off air conditioners when leaving home and use pool covers to reduce evaporation.

Residents are permitted to water outdoors for 30 minutes on both Wednesday and Sunday before 9am or after 6pm.
