Dubbo Aquatic and Leisure Centre users have swamped Facebook with messages of support for the former manager of the centre, Nick Wilson.
Mr Wilson recently placed a passionate and angry post on Facebook outlining his disappointment with the Dubbo Regional Council and its decision to not renew his contract.
The Daily Liberal sought comment from the council who said through a spokesperson they were aware of Mr Wilson's opinion but would not engage with him or address his various claims and accusations against the council or its staff in public forums such as social or local media.
Dubbo resident Hayley McGee said Mr Wilson ran the pool professionally and was always pleasant and friendly.
"When I moved to Dubbo I used the pool and could not believe how clean not only the pool but the facilities and grounds were," she wrote on Facebook.
"Over the years with our children, we have been to many swimming carnivals in NSW where this was not so. Having owned my own business, I understand the importance of having good people work for you. I feel for the Dubbo community."
Elizabeth Hartog praised Mr Wilson for sticking up for himself.
"Good on Nick for standing up for himself and speaking out," she wrote.
"I think we all should take our hats off to Nick. I personally would have said a lot more than Nick did, I think he did well to keep it to what he did after the way he has been treated. All I can say is there are some pretty big bloody shoes to fill. Nick was amazing at his job, and it's due to his pure dedication that my son today can swim. Nick went above and beyond to do his job."
Corrine Medlin said Mr Wilson was missed at the pool.
"Nick is very much missed by everyone who frequents the pool. It's simply not the same without him, in so many ways," she said.
Mr Wilson said he had spent 13 years of my life dedicated to the Dubbo Aquatic and Leisure Centre.
"I get messages every week about the state of the facility," he said. "I am passionate about the facility, but I think the council's concept for it won't work."
