A former jockey, Attard who is based at Rockhampton has trained more than 120 winners and is presently considering establishing a satellite stable at Hawkesbury.
Owned by the trainers wife Sharon Attard and Christine Matton from Central Queensland who bred the four year old gelding, Gohan led most of the way at Cowra to beat the strong finishing Hez Arrived by a length and a half with Spy's Shadow two lengths away third.
Fioravanti a long odds winner two starts back at Bathurst for Hawkesbury trainer Jacqueline Greentree was the first leg of a Cowra double for Tony Cavallo when winning the Raine & Horne Cowra Benchmark 50 Handicap over 1100 metres.
Noble Hussler sped to a sizeable lead but turning for home was headed by Fioravanti which raced away to score by nearly three lengths from Bee Double Bee and Waldo Waldorf.
The two outsiders of the field, Ligny and Not So Wild fought out an exciting finish to the 950 metres Cowra Bowling Club Class 1 Handicap.
At the top of the straight Not So Wild took the lead from Lady Go Go but was overhauled in the last stride and beaten a half head by Ligny, well ridden by Tiffany Jeffries for her mother, Parkes trainer Sharon Jeffries.
The strongly fancied Freundin settled off the pace and in the straight had every chance to win.
Sponsored by the Jack High Family Restaurant at Cowra Bowling Club, the 1700 metres Benchmark 50 Handicap featured an outstanding ride by Brendan Ward on the George Dimitropoulos, Tumbarumba trained Cowboy Hour.
From last of the four runners, Ward took advantage of an opening on the rails and urged his mount to the lead near the 600 metres and thereafter Cowboy Hour maintained a clear advantage to win by over three lengths from debut maker Snazzy Chazzy and She's Reliable.
Recent creditable runs in TAB company indicated the David Smith, Mudgee trained Rhythmo was close to a win and the $1.90 favourite ridden by Jake Pracey-Holmes was always travelling well in the lead when defeating Danish Hussar and Bycromac in the 1375 metres appropriately named Bugger The Drought Maiden Plate.
The annual get together for those involved or interested in racing is at Dubbo racecourse, commencing at 2.00pm on Saturday.
The Western Racing Association premiership presentations will also take place on the day.
