The Dubbo colts side will be taking part in a four-team Western Zone tournament this weekend in Bathurst and although captain Ben Wheeler, Tom Coady, and Jack Settree are the only returning players from last season's side, Nelson believes they can win it all.
"We have a lot of experience with all of the guys playing first grade and second grade together as well us all playing junior rep together so I think we will be the team to beat," Nelson said
The weekend also doubles as a chance for the teams to showcase their talents in front of Western Zone selectors, but Nelson isn't getting carried away.
The young spinner still plays under 16s in the Dubbo and District Junior Cricket Association competition.
"I'm not really worried about Western selection, if it happens that awesome and I'll be stoked but at the moment I just want to do what is best for the team and whatever helps us win," he said.
While the Dubbo side goes into the two-day carnival with plenty of confidence, Nelson believes anyone can win the tournament.

"Bathurst or Orange, from what I have heard, are pretty good but with this being the first year for a lot of us we don't really know what to expect," he said.
Nelson will be joined by CYMS teammates Tom Coady, Jake Settree, Gilbert Chaseling, and Campbell Watts in the Dubbo squad.
The team also includes in-form Rugby batsmen Ben Wheeler and Koda Sissian as well as RSL-Colts 15-year-old Anthony Atlee.
Atlee and Sissian have both proven themselves capable first grade cricketers already this season and both have made half centuries for the respective sides.
The squad also features a handy fast bowling unit, with Ben Rosenbaum, Alex Orth, and Tom Masonwells having all taken the new ball at different times in first grade so far this season.
Saturday will feature Dubbo against Orange at Morse Park 2 and Bathurst taking on the Chairman's XI at Morse Park 1.
The final will be played at the latter ground from 10am on Sunday, the two losing outfits will play-off that day for the chance to impress one more time individually.
The Western side to head to the country championship in mid-December will be named after the carnival's completion.
That country championship will also be played at Bathurst.
