Macquarie Anglican Grammar School was visited by Surf Lifesaving NSW through the Beach to Bush program. The aim was to teach the students not only about beach safety, but also what to do around rivers and dams.
Lila and Lauren, who demonstrated how to rescue someone like Lawson from the water, said it had been a fun way to learn.
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
Lauren said she learnt sometimes the Surf Lifesaving volunteers had to put their fingers in people's mouths to help clear their airways.
Lila said she learnt people had to be really safe when they were swimming at the beach.
The students were also taught about the red and yellow flags, how to get help at the beach and sun safety.
The Beach to Bush program is targeted at primary students in regional and rural areas. Inland children are often at higher risk at the beach because they are less familiar with surf dangers.
