Something most trainers go through from time to time, the Gulgong-based Thompson endured something of a shift at is stables in the past couple of years.
A number of older horses were moved on or retired while work was put in breaking and educating a number of younger hopefuls.
Those horses are starting to make their mark now and Thompson heads to Dubbo Turf Club on Sunday with a number of strong chances.
He comes in form as well, having scored a winning double at the Dubbo track on Derby Day earlier this month.
"We've got some really nice horses coming through at the moment," he said.
"They're three-year-olds and most are fillies."
Thompson and his team have had to patient at times recently with a number of fillies in season meaning moods and racing performance quite variable at times.

But overall things are looking bright and more Dubbo success could await.
Thompson had five horses accepted for Sunday but there is only a chance three could race.
Denace will definitely be scratched having drawn poorly in what was to be her return from a spell while All Hollywood is no certainty due to a slightly raised temperature on Friday morning.
If All Hollywood can avoid a bit of sickness going around the stables she'll take her place at Dubbo, alongside Clever Missile, Dart Street and debutant Hawklist.
Hawklist will make his first start in the Daily Liberal CG&E Maiden Handicap (1100m).
Thompson said the Purrealist X Hawkeyed Girl gelding was bred to be a stayer and needed to improve more but remained quietly confident about his chances.
"We tipped him out after his first trial but his trial the other day [third at Muswellbrook] was really good," Thompson said.
"Aaron Bullock said after that he'll definitely win some races but over more ground. But 1100 on Sunday, I think he'll run a cheeky race.
"If he won it wouldn't surprise me but he does need 1400 or 1600 [metres]."
Clever Missile and Dart Street will both contest the Milestone Hotel Benchmark 58 Handicap (1610m).
Clever Missile was one of Thompson's two Derby Day winners and has one win from three career starts.
Dart Street has just the one win from 21 starts but has placed 11 times, and Thompson said the five-year-old is still learning his trade.
Ashley Morgan, someone Thompson described as a "really good, genuine person" as well as a good jockey, has all the rides except for Dart Street.
Mathew Cahill is in the saddle for that one.
Thompson will head to Newcastle on Saturday before racing at Dubbo.
There he has Smart Moove in the $75,000 TAB Highway Handicap (1300m).
Smart Moove is coming off a commanding win at Dubbo on Derby Day.
Racing starts at 1.55pm at Dubbo on Sunday.
