Whereas last year's popular exhibition at Dundullimal Homestead focussed almost entirely on paintings depicting local landscapes, this year's display has a broader appeal incorporating New Zealand landscapes.

Mr Garling said the new exhibition at Dundullimal Homestead contrasts the golden gullies and iconic solitary eucalypts which characterise the local Dubbo region with the rugged peaks of the Warrumbungles, the impenetrable forests of the Blue Mountains and the snow-capped mountain ranges of New Zealand.

Garling, a multi-award winning Australian Plein-air landscape artist, prefers painting in situ despite the many challenges it presents compared with painting in the comfort of a studio.

"The quality of the light changes rapidly in outside settings requiring the artist to work quickly to capture the moment," Mr Garling said.

Garling said although the weather can be harsh, he prefers being physically immersed in the landscape because he feels it gives his paintings a greater sense of authenticity and life.

"I have painted in the company of platypus swimming nearby and had brown snakes pass dangerously near to my feet."

Karen Hagan, the National Trust's Manager at Dundullimal Homestead, said she is looking forward to Garling's new exhibition opening at Dundullimal Homestead.

"We are thrilled to open the shed at Dundullimal for the second year running to showcase Brett Mon Garling's beautiful paintings," said Karen Hagan. "This is a wonderful opportunity to interlock a celebration of place through art and heritage."

Garling will participate in a meet and greet at 11 am on Saturday 23 November.
